With the new spearfishing season upon us, we saw a new spearfishing retail outlet unleash on Perth. Spear West (www.spearwest.com.au), with a serious online presence and a retail store front in Osborne, its a store that will meet and exceed the needs of the most particular spearo. The WA Undersea Club was most excited when SpearWest offered to sponsor the first north of the river, SpearWest Metro Masters! With some epic prizes on offer the hype in the WAUC only comp was high.
The forecasted conditions were almost ideal, with a late shower in the day. We weren’t disappointed when the day came. We had low swell and light winds off Two Rocks. We had 8-10m viability in most spots on the day. We had some difficulty with my vessel but my dive buddy Cameron Bates managed a 11kg local Dhufish on the first spot!
Overall, it was a well organised and run competition. 19 pairs registered with 9 pairs weighing fish at the end of the comp. Although at weigh in the weather had turned in a torrential downpour, thankfully we had a roof over our head at the designated weigh in area.
Now to the results:
1st Chris Barnes , Brett Lester 1618.20 points
2nd Troy Eggins, Matt Greenaway 1151.50 points
3rd Daniel Minchilli, Rob Hosgen 1093.40 points
4th Steve Oakes, Matt MacNeil 925.00 points
5th Darren Gebbitis, Marek Beliniak 491.00 points
Most meritorious Troy Eggins with a 17.06KG Spanish Mackerel – only one of the day!
Special mention for a Dhufish caught by Cameron Bates 10.92KG Dhufish – the biggest Dhufish shot for the comp.
Special thanks to those who contributed greatly towards the event, but couldn’t manage to compete in the day’s events. Without you guys comps like this wouldn’t happen – You know who you are! Looking forwarded to next years event!
Biggest thanks to Adam Bushby at SpearWest, without sponsor support these comps cant happen, so make sure we support them www.spearwest.com.au
