WAUC Meeting – Tuesday 14th February

Hello all,

Hoping you’ve been getting into some of the early season Mackerel swimming around the place. The water is certainly warming up.

We have a special treat lined up for this months club meeting. We are proud to announce we have secured a guest speaker, John Adams, the author of “How to use a fish finder”

www.howtouseafishfinder.com

John is an absolute guru on the set up, use and tuning of your echo sounder/fish finder and the WAUC is stoked to have John on board! Sounders can be daunting at the best of times, however, when mastered, a good sounder makes a huge difference to hunting out those bombies that aren’t always obvious on the charts.Read more

Dampier Spearfishing Classic

After the initial competition date was cancelled due to bad weather, Sunday, 19 November 2016 saw the competition finally go ahead. Graham Carlisle from the WAUC in Perth flew up and helped run the show on behalf of the club. Graham ran an information session the night before which turned into a few beers and quite a few burgers consumed at the Hampton yacht club.

The next morning it was all systems go! The weather conditions were near perfect and depending on where you were launching from – the dinghy’s had the advantage as it was low tide.… Read more

Dive and Fish Rotto Cray Competition 2016

Conditions were looking ideal leading up to the competition, sub 1m swell and under 10 knot winds for the morning. 15+ knot winds were forecasted for the mid afternoon.

Come weigh in time, jumbos weren’t frequently weighed as in previous years. Depending on where one dove, the sea was relatively surgey and saw many jumbo holes empty or they were hiding deep sheltering from the surge.

With $1000 worth of prizes being given away, it saw 12 WAUC boats on the beach come the 1pm deadline. With some 45 people in attendance under the gazebo for the free food and weigh in proceedings in the picturesque Thomson’s bay.… Read more

Subsidised Freedive Courses!

With the new financial year, WAUC are happy to announce we have been successful in gaining a safety grant from RecfishWest. In a nutshell this means we can offer the WA Freedive community subsidised, aka discounted Freedive courses!

However, different from last year, this year we have switched up our approach in the initiative. Now for the first time, you can select the provider and location of your Freedive course to gain the discount! Provided the training provider meets certain criteria

2016 Glynn Dromey results

PHOTOS!

The day started before first light with the organisers setting up a gazebo next to the main jetty in Lancelin. Rain and grey skies from an early morning storm greeted competitors but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for the 20th annual Glynn Dromey, Western Australia’s biggest spearfishing competition. The rain continued during sign on but as the sun rose it eased and we were presented with flat seas, variable wind and low swell.

Thirty two (32) pairs signed on and at the diver’s briefing the competitors received their competition tokens, safety information, rules and new sign off procedures. The horn sounded at 7:00am and a sea of nervous competitors gunned their engines and the fleet of boats scattered to all points of the compass.… Read more
